Learn to Swim

Grace Swimming offers Learn to Swim classes for children aged 6 months upwards.

Within our facilities there are two Learn To Swim Pools, one 10 metres long at a depth of 1.2 metres and the other 16 metres long at a depth of 0.8 metres. Both pools are kept to at a very warm 32°C.

Here at Grace Learn to Swim, we have a team of very friendly and fully accredited SWIM AUSTRALIA / AUSTSWIM instructors. Our instructors are experienced and maintain a high currency standard to ensure your child is given the best opportunity to improve and develop not only their swimming skills, but their water safety skills. Grace Learn to Swim and its instructors ultimately pride themselves in striving for a happy and fun environment for your child to begin their swimming journey.

There are multiple fun days and Mini Macca’s Meets held at our facilities, where all the children from Learn to Swim get together to promote their newly learnt and developed skills.


Learn to Swim Program

TURTLE 1 (non-confident swimmer)

Maximum 3 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • Voluntary submersion's and blowing of bubbles
  • Floating on front and back with minimal assistance
  • Kicking on front and back with minimal assistance
  • Assisted vertical turns and swim backs
  • Submerging, opening eyes and retrieving toy from shallow water
  • Developing basic water safety knowledge

TURTLE JUNIOR (advanced young swimmers who have progressed through our baby program)

Maximum 3 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • Floating on front and back unassisted
  • Kicking on front and back unassisted for 3m
  • Long paddle and kicking with eyes down for 3m
  • Falling in, swimming back to the edge and climbing out unassisted
  • Submerging and retrieving a toy from shallow water
  • Entering and exiting the pool safely unassisted 

 

TURTLE 2 (confident beginner class)

Maximum 4 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • Floating on front and back unassisted
  • Front rocket glide and kick unassisted for 5m (no breathing)
  • Long paddle and kick unassisted with eyes down for 5m
  • Back kick and polish unassisted for 5m
  • Falling in, swimming back to the edge and climbing out unassisted
  • Submerging, opening eyes and retrieving toy without goggles
  • Developing personal water safety knowledge

 

OCTOPUS JUNIOR (stroke introduction)

Maximum 4 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • A continuous swim, flip, float to stand with minimal assistance
  • Developing basic lateral breathing pattern
  • Front rocket glide and kick for 6m (no breathing)
  • Freestyle arms and kicking with a kickboard for 6m (no breathing)
  • Back glide and kick for 6m without a kickboard (hands by side)
  • Backstroke arms and kicking with a kickboard for 6m
  • Submerging and swimming underwater with eyes open to retrieve a toy without goggles

 

OCTOPUS 

Maximum 4 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • A continuous swim, flip, float, flip and swim unassisted
  • Front rocket kicking for 8m (no breathing)
  • Freestyle bubble and breathe without a kickboard for 8m 
  • Backstroke kick in a split rocket (one arm up, one arm by side) for 8m
  • Backstroke 6 kick change (opposite arm action) for 8m
  • Understanding of stationary breaststroke kick (sitting on side of pool)
  • Basic personal water safety and survival techniques

 

DOLPHIN

Maximum 4 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • Front and back rocket kicking for 16m with good body position and strong kick
  • Freestyle catch up for 16m with correct bubble, bubble, breathe technique (no kickboard)
  • Flowing backstroke for 16m (continuous, opposite arm action) with a strong kick
  • Breaststroke kick for 16m with symmetrical leg action and feet turning out
  • Survival backstroke kick for 16m with a kickboard
  • Developing extended personal water safety and basic rescues techniques

 

STROKE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

STINGRAY

Maximum 5 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • Streamline freestyle and backstroke kick for 32m
  • Flowing freestyle for 32m with strong, consistent kick and correct bi-lateral breathing
  • Flowing backstroke for 32m with good body position and strong kick
  • Breaststroke for 16m with correct timing and good body position
  • Basic butterfly kick for 16m
  • Survival backstroke for 16m
  • Further developing personal safety and rescue techniques in deep water including treading, sculling, safe diving and reach/throw rescues

SHARK

Maximum 6 students per class

We're working towards.....

  • Further developing efficiency in streamline freestyle and backstroke kicks (32m)
  • Further developing freestyle technique over 50m 
  • Backstroke for 50m with correct start, finish, strong kick and shoulder rotation
  • Further developing Breaststroke technique over 50m
  • Streamline butterfly kick for 32m (full body kick and head still)
  • Butterfly for 16m with symmetrical arm action, correct breathing and kick timing
  • Survival backstroke for 32m
  • Understanding basic stroke drills
  • Preparing for Squad transition

Lesson Times

Our learn to swim center is opened all year round, running in conjunction with State School Terms. Grace Learn to Swim also offers Holiday Intensive Programs during each of the school holidays.

Grace Learn to Swim holds classes 6 days a week, Monday through to Saturday. Each of our classes is of 30 minute duration and is held between the following times:
 

Monday:          9:00 am – 11:30 am & 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Tuesday:          9:00 am – 11:30 am & 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Wednesday:     9:00 am – 11:00 am & 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Thursday:         9:00 am – 11:00 am & 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Friday:             9:00 am – 11:00 am & 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Saturday:         7:00 am – 11:00 am
